So I just felt like there was more to Shelby's illness than what they told me...so I packed the 3 kids up early this evening, dropped the two older ones off at my sister's and headed to the ER. She hadn't had a wet diaper in like two days, and as the day wore on, I just felt like we should have made some progress. So when we first got there we got back there right away. The nurse was nice, but she just kept making it seem like my baby seemed fine...good this, good that... I finally just said, I understand that maybe she doesn't seem that dehydrated to you, but I just think that there is something going on, she's not my first baby, and this just doesn't seem right to me.
"Oh, no, I know, I'm not trying to say that you don't know, I'm just showing you signs of how to check for dehydration...blah, blah blah." Let's just say my "be happy" vibe was slowly fading, but still clinging to life a little bit. So I just smiled. OH. I almost forgot. When she checked Shelby's temp (rectally), she poked her but looking for her ah ehhmm, rectum, but instead she made her poor little birthmarky thingy (that's what I'm calling it now), bleed!! She said oh, there's some blood down here, I immediately got nervous and told her that that was not normal, she's not supposed to bleed there. I know it is hard to see where her little poop shoot is because of the malformation, but come on. I almost lost it there. I remained totally calm with a smile on my face as she kept apologizing. I politely showed her where to stick the thermometer (no, I did not tell her where her sun doesn't shine, but the thought crossed my mind, I mean come on, she made my little baby girl bleed out of her birthmark thingy!). So anyway, she got the temp, we put the diaper back on and all my mind could think of was a blood filled diaper the next time I opened it. She must have read my mind, because as soon as she showed us into our room, she said why don't you check and see how her bleeding is. And, it was gone. Phew.
Anyway, after some pedialyte, 3 nose swabs, finger prick to fill 3 viles, and a shot of antiobiotics, we found out she had RSV. So. She did not have to be admitted since she was taking some fluids by this time and she was not as badly dehydrated as I thought, and well, I don't know why else. He said normally they do admit them, but she was doing well. In their standards I guess. So we're home, I'm exhausted and I'm going to try to sleep. Please God!
